Personally, I don't like skype to start with.
Only reason I had it to start with was some online game people I chated with used it and have not been on for a year now.
Skype has no way built in to delete an account once it is created.
They suggest removing any personal information and just let the account alone forever.
Even after removing your contacts from the application, the information is still located in a sql light database in the appdata.
Personally, I will remove the information, delete the contacts, then uninstall the program so I don't get auto switched by accident.
Skype does have a way to back up your contacts to a "username".vcf file
Then I will wait and see if the do try a force move on March 15th.

Lots of articles on this
I guess the malware author disliked the idea of loosing messenger even more than I did.

Wow, I read the rumours a while ago but I just got an email from MS about the retirement plan for Messenger being official. There is an account migration that moves your Messenger contacts into skype and you are supposed to chat with skype instead.
Time to go back to ICQ.
I rather enjoy having a basic text chat thing without the intrusive feeling that skype gives me.
Did anyone else get the email from Microsoft?

Yes, I got that too.
I really don't use my Messenger account, but my existing Skype account is set up so I can use it for making phone calls and it will show the call as coming from my cell phone. I wonder if all that stuff will carry over or if I need to have two Skype accounts.

I am not so much of a phone person, rather be in person or on chat mode. An interesting move by microsoft to dump such a widely used product. Lots of apple and linux folks use skype so who knows.

I don't make many phone calls either, but that functionality on Skype has saved me a lot of money on international calls to my parents.

Got the message but was already using Skype. It is niceR

Feels like the spacing is to big on the compressed view. Would be nice if you could tab the text message windows. Other than that its not horribly bad.

some backlash has already started on the skype site... eg there are now no more email notifcations for hotmail when using skype as the messenger, also I have noticed that if you are a migrated skype user you have very limited skype access(cant be sent as a contact etc..) So far to be honest its very annoiying.

We have been been on for how long now and not 1 Prize winner.
Perhaps due to the limited number of Articles could be the reason.
Plus I assume no one actually submited one to be voted on.
I'm actualy trying to win one of those Fancy coffee mugs. Who needs that software stuff you have to do "Work" with
Hmm,
I wonder if they have one with Root Admin on one side and Code Project on the other side?

I think what they're waiting on is for me to write an article so I can get one of those fancy mugs.

More seriously, though, I believe this should be in the "Site Bugs / Suggestions" area.
|
|
|
|

I don't think it is a bug, possibly a suggestion though.
I was just noting that there were no winners yet.

A fancy mug would be nice.

I'll start a thread internally with the super powers and report back.

Just a mug? Or does it need to be a fancy one?

That definitely wouldn't be fancy.

Just a mug.

I was hoping for the "Fancy" one with both names on it.
That way anyone that sees it may think you have one of each
(If they only see one side at a time )

I agree. In fact, anything "real", like a T-Shirt, Mug, etc.

With NFC just starting to come online here in Canada, I am just wondering if anyone in any other countries actually uses it? Is it readily available where you live and do you use it? Just wondering....
|
|
|
|
|
Never seen or heard of it being used.
Although, I have seen the Visa contactless payment for cards, never seen anything NFC mobile related.

My CC works with all the paypass things for NFC payment, but most new phones are also setup for NFC. If you are in the US you can use google wallet to bump pay with your nfc phone. Doesn't work in canada unless you root your phone.
